Elon #Musk, the world’s richest man and a linchpin of #US space efforts, has been in regular contact with Russian President Vladimir #Putin since late 2022.

At one point, Putin asked the billionaire to avoid activating his #Starlink satellite internet service over #Taiwan as a favor to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, said two people briefed on the request.

In 2022, Elon Musk flew to Brazil and was lauded by far-right president Jair Bolsonaro when he claimed Starlink would provide internet to 19,000 schools.

Musk never followed through, but on Sunday he still shared a post claiming he did.

SpaceX Starlink operates in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) under license from the US Government Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It does not have the authority to violate US allies' laws and sovereignty. Doing so makes the US partner to such illegal activity. Should SpaceX continue in this reckless illegal action, it would seem incumbent on the US Government to stop them.
