"Valencia's regional government admitted that it had only sent out a text message warning residents of the impending catastrophe at 8:12 PM, eight hours after the first floods were reported, and 10 hours after Spain’s AEMET issued an alert highlighting “extreme danger” across the region."

Disasters like this will keep happening because we are NOT ready. Nearly 100 lives lost because the early warning system failed.

After the extreme rain events this is a picture from the El País newspaper showing a stretch of the V-30 that runs alongside the Turia river. The river is in full flood, very wide with brown turbulent water on the left. In the centre of the picture, the road is partially flooded and there are cars abandoned and debris overtop the road. If you hate protesters blocking roads in the name of taking immediate #ClimateAction, you’re going to really hate how Climate Change itself blocks roads.

A picture today from Valencia, Spain where they received 500mm of rain, a year’s worth, in one day on Tuesday. >95 dead.

edit: More Pictures. Valencia is the third largest city in Spain. It affected towns just to the south (Sedavi) of it mainly as well as other areas of Southeast Spain.

At least 70 people have died in the region. More are missing and expected perished.

The government has announced 3 days of mourning.
