Loops.video update:
- Over 1200 users have joined!
- We need to migrate to a bigger server before we can onboard more users
- Federation support coming later this week!
It's amazing to see the early feed, its growing and will get even better with more community members.

I've decided to delay the Loops Camera feature and focus on other features so we can ship the beta ASAP!
This means you will have to upload videos from your Camera Roll.
You can use an app like CapCut for video editing and upload the export.
It's the little things, like implementing argon2di password hashing and going the extra mile by saving old hashed passwords to detect and prevent re-use in a safe way!
@loops aims to be the open, federated and fun TikTok alternative, without sacrificing your privacy!

pixelfed.social has hundreds of hours of videos, perfect to seed a new Loops type feature.
The lack of content on loops.video makes it less useful, so I am leveraging our existing and huge volume of video from pixelfed.social for this feature.
We have the infra, backend and data, it's almost too perfect 😎
The Loops "For-You" algorithm is something I want to discuss at some point
It's so very technical and boring to most people, but the lengths I've gone to replicate a basic version of the TikTok one is nothing short of legendary.
It involves on-device machine learning, efficient backend processing and a hybrid collaborative approach, that may or may not be fine tuned 😎

During the first few weeks of Loops, I want to find and assemble a team of creators who want to pursue monetization in a way that works for our platform, for example: monthly subscriptions.
To build a real and sustainable alternative to TikTok will require monetization, and together with the fediverse communities voice, I think we can chart a healthy way forward that puts a majority of compensation in the hands of creators.
Y'all will love @pixelfed #loops I think, even though we don't have an advanced camera or editing tools yet, you will be able to import videos from CapCut and other apps!
