"NPR...reported that 'more than 1,600 digital subscriptions had been cancelled less than four hours after the news broke.'

It was a reasonable impulse. But if Bezos is indeed why the Post is no longer endorsing candidates, and if people are worried about his outsize influence on our society, they should not be canceling their newspaper subscriptions. They should be canceling their Amazon Prime subscriptions."

The Washington Post is not bothering to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. (Jeff Bezos, the founder of Blue Origin and the founder and executive chairman of Amazon and Amazon Web Services, also owns The Post.) We as a newspaper suddenly remembered, less than two weeks before the election, that we had a robust tradition 50 years ago of not telling anyone what to do with their vote for president. It is time we got back to those “roots,” I'm told! Roots are important, of course. As recently as the 1970s, The Post did not endorse a candidate for president. As recently as centuries ago, there was no Post and the country had a king! Go even further back, and the entire continent of North America was totally uninhabitable, and we were all spineless creatures who lived in the ocean, and certainly there were no Post subscribers.

But if I were the paper, I would be a little embarrassed that it has fallen to me, the humor columnist, to make our presidential endorsement. I will spare you the suspense: I am endorsing Kamala Harris for president, because I like elections and want to keep having them.

Earlier this month, Ben Horowitz pledged to make a "significant" donation to Harris. He's since contributed $2.5 million to BlackPAC, a left-leaning PAC focused on Black voter turnout. They support Harris, but not exclusively.

Recent expenditures by BlackPAC include support for Sherrod Brown, a candidate that crypto super PAC Fairshake has spent $40 million to oppose.

Horowitz has contributed $22 million to Fairshake.

It's a sign of how bad off the Democratic Party is in South Carolina that there were no Democrats on my ballot running for any office below state senator. Not even state representative! Your choice for all those offices was a Republican or a write-in. That's it.

I understand why it's hard to get people to run for those offices. Who wants to run for an office when you're almost certainly going to lose, and even if you win you're going to be stuck in the minority forever?

But you gotta develop that local bench, man. You just gotta. State-level candidates don't just fall out of the sky.

Before you suggest that I should help solve this problem by running for something: did you scroll up and look at my face

I donated to the Harris Walz campaign again yesterday to help celebrate our soon to be Madame president's 60th birthday. I was too busy to post here but it's not too late! Donate $60 or 6$ or add 60 cents into any number. Any amount helps & the Harris campaign has been shifting money to down ballot races who desperately need the cash in these last few weeks. Nothing could be more of an example of why monopolies suck than Google search.

Went from great to shitty in a few years as they ruined it for various forms of incidental revenue.

Now we have no good alternatives because they dominated the market.

(I know there is DuckDuckGo, but it has never been as good as Google. Closer now but that, imo, is because Google is trash now.)

For the 1st time ever, a plurality of swing state voters now think that a #Democrat will win the presidential #election. This month, 46% of voters think #Harris will win, compared to 39% who think it will be #Trump. That is an 11-point swing in Harris’ favor since Aug, & suggests that Harris has been successful in presenting herself as a serious candidate.
