Yesterday I published a few toots about my experiences with the #Beeper app by Automattic, which uses the #Matrix protocol & allows users to easily create bridges to the inboxes of #Whatsapp#Instagram#LinkedIn and a plethora of other apps.

Well well late last night I was on my burner phone to check Threads and I got a notification from Instagram warning me that my account showed bot-like behavior and was at risk of being permanently banned. #Meta got mad! (cont')

2) If you're read my blog posts on mainstream social media, you know my antipathy towards a certain Big Tech behemoth runs deep.

I don't have any of their apps on my main phone & I only keep dormant accounts for certain products because 99.9% of my friends are non-technical people / are not in the Fediverse (sigh). Sometimes they message me there.

Anyhow after yesterday's warning I will disable the Instagram and LinkedIn bridges from Beeper... and I will keep using my burner phone... (cont')

3) In January 2020 I successfully managed to convince all my family and many friends to migrate our conversations from WhatsApp to Signal. I then deleted my WhatsApp account & never looked back.

There were 2 good friends in Italy and my child's nanny though who didn't want to download/use Signal. I would send them regular texts...

I eventually created a brand new WhatsApp account w a different number for diehards. If that WhatsApp gets banned, I've got nothing to lose, really
