@dothewoo.io is now on the #fediverse

https://dothewoo.io/do-the-woo-is-trailbazing-the-fediverse-with-matthias-pfefferle-and-derek-hanson/

This may be the reference implementation of #podcasts in #WordPress blogs and i hope that more podcasts will follow this example.

@BobWP @derekahanson It was fun working with you on that ❤️

And kudos to the @Mastodon team, the audio player is pretty neat!!!

There are some new test reports, including system tests for:

* Running two Mastodon instances against each other
* Running Mastodon against WordPress + plugins

and even running three Mastodon instances against each other, for tests such as "if A posts, B reshares, and C gets it, and then A deletes the post, will it disappear on C" Happy to report that in case of Mastodon, it does!

you are asking what features the new ActivityPub plugin version has?

thanks for asking! ☺️

* Support for post visibility - you can choose between "public", "only followers" and "no federation".
* Attribution-Domains - that should fix the fediverse:creator issues, if you had issues
* Improved compatibility with caching plugins

Hello Fedi friends!

I've been refreshing the website of my project #TheRealists and I'm taking full advantage of the #ActivityPub#Wordpress plugin to share articles straight to the #Fediverse.

This one is from earlier this year, but it feels timely, with everything that's going on in the social media space. Most popular platforms feel like Pinocchio's Pleasure Island IMHO.

Anybody know how wp-cron.php in #WordPress works, exactly? It can be invoked explicitly, and it a also runs implicitly at the end of other HTTP GET requests? Is that right?

And then, if there are 1000 things in the queue, what does it do? Are the queue entries all "deliver asap" or can I schedule things for the future?

WordPress Drama

Apparently, a good amount of notable people left out of the 159, which includes:

Some employees who left the company include the head of WordPress.com (Automattic’s commercial WordPress hosting arm), Daniel Bachhuber, head of programs and contributor experience Naoko Takano, the Principal architect for AI, Daniel Walmsley.

That is a lot of notable talent leaving.

WordPress Drama

If you wondering about those rumors about Automattic giving a "generous" severance package if they don’t agree with his behavior, it was true.

On his blog post (https://ma.tt/2024/10/alignment/ ):

159 people took the offer, 8.4% of the company, the other 91.6% gave up $126M of potential severance to stay!

Sure a percentage of that are probably those who have a new job lined up) or on a PIP (or just a way we are going to fire you eventually or layoff). There is probably a good chunk that had enough of his antics.

Sure, Matt claims at 1892 of the remaining people support his crusade and burning WordPress to the ground. I can argue they didn't take it because they need to make a living, and there could be employees that don’t like his behavior, but don't have a choice because they need the money. Job market is kind of hard, especially in tech.

159 people is a huge chunk to loose, for a relatively small company that is probably losing a lot of money.
