@pluralistic 's words on Bluesky and #enshittification are, to me, true.

These two paragraphs say everything about why I can't trust Bluesky to always have good intentions:

'But here's the thing: all those other platforms, the ones where I unwisely allowed myself to get locked in, where today I find myself trapped by the professional, personal and political costs of leaving them, they were all started by people who swore they'd never sell out. I know those people, the old blogger mafia who started the CMSes, social media services, and publishing platforms where I find myself trapped. I considered them friends (I still consider most of them friends), and I knew them well enough to believe that they really cared about their users.

They did care about their users. They just cared about other stuff, too, and, when push came to shove, they chose the worsening of their services as the lesser of two evils.'

if you want to understand what's wrong with #mastodon, listen to some black people. listen to some women. listen to some queer people. I'll post some links in a bit for those who don't know, but I'm not here to convince mastodon apologists. I'm interested in joining the conversation on how (if?) #ActivityPub can be used in a way that overcomes mastodon's problems.
Ro ( @are0h) is deeply knowledgeable about the problems with mastodon and on fedi, and has done extensive work coordinating and using the available tools. He also has deep knowledge of the technical and social challenges ahead, and the risks of failure. #mastodon#ActivityPub

I would like to use Bluesky. They’ve done a bunch of seriously interesting technical work on moderation and ranking that I truly admire, and I’ve got lots of friends there who really enjoy it.

But I’m not on Bluesky and I don’t have any plans to join it anytime soon. I wrote about this in 2023: I will never again devote my energies to building up an audience on a platform whose management can sever my relationship to that audience at will

With zero experience of the two commercial platforms, concluded the following from the reviews of you raging communists:

Threads - No news. Check out my insta pics. Here's a random thing the algorithm threw.

Blue Sky - Late to the Twitter. Late to leave. This is so like old Twitter.

Mastodon - Freaks, tech geeks, nerds and raging communists.

Is that the deal?

Cory Doctorow @pluralistic ofrece este enlace de la Universidad de Minnesota sobre los beneficios y desventajas del Fediverso, con hincapié en el problema de la moderación de contenidos. Me parece relevante. Es descargable.

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4213674#maincontent

La 1ª parte describe el Fediverso y cómo funciona.

La 2ª parte examina la moderación de contenido en Mastodon.

La 3ª parte considera cómo los legisladores pueden fomentar el Fediverso.

#Newcomers to #Mastodon keep in mind when you see people telling you how easy things are and telling you how to do things, someone on Mastodon just ran a poll with hundreds of responses and 1/3 of the people said they ran their own email server.

So take it all with a grain of salt.

Exactly two years ago, we started to post links on #Mastodon via our account @heiseonline 👇

https://mastodon.social/@heiseonline/109314036284496776

It took longer, than I expected, but here we are: it seems like this account now brings continuously more #traffic to heise.de than #X (#Twitter) in its entirety, although it only has ¼ of the follower number (and many of them don't seem to be active anymore).
I'll prepare some graphs after the weekend.

The week is over, here are some charts:
For two weeks in a row, #Mastodon brought more #traffic than #X / #Twitter to heise.de.
But I forgot, that's not just via @heiseonline, but also @heisec, @ct_Magazin, @heiseautos, @iX_Magazin etc. (but for Twitter its the same).

#Bluesky is way behind, #Threads even more. Only Twitter is clearly falling.

If you add all the #TwitterAlternative s, they have been in the lead for a while now.

If you add @Flipboard and sum it up wit #Mastodon (because #Fediverse 😉), then #Facebook ist not far.

But, if you have a look on the numbers since the beginning of 2022, then it's clear, that this is mainly a story about the decline of #Twitter.
