finished reading Technofeudalism: What Killed Capitalism 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Late-stage capitalism has given way to cloud-based fiefs, and we are the serfs. I need convincing on some of the detail (e.g. how effective are they at manipulating our desires?), but mostly agree with his main argument. Pairs well with Cory Doctorow's #enshittification ideas ( @pluralistic).

"The reason hospital administrators love Epic, and pay gigantic sums for systemwide software licenses, is directly connected to the two hours that doctors spent filling in Epic forms for every hour they spend treating patients. Epic collects all that extra information in order to identify potential sources of plausible upcodes, which allows hospitals to bill patients, insurers, and Medicare through the nose for routine care. Epic can automatically recode "diabetes with no complications" from a Hierarchical Condition Category code 19 (worth $894.40) as "diabetes with kidney failure," code 18 and 136, which gooses the reimbursement to $1273.60." - @pluralistic

Broadly speaking, the role of an establishment economist is to come up with new ways of saying, "actually, your boss is right." In other words, the world we're living in is the best possible world, and the fact that you got contact burns from collapsing on the scorching sidewalk outside of the grocery store where you couldn't afford your weekly shopping is unfortunate, but unavoidable.

Establishment Economists explaining the Central Bank setting interest rates at 20%, causing massive unemployment, collapse in the housing market, widespread small business failures, and suicides among small business owners and unemployed;

"Well last months M1 and M2 Money Supply numbers combined with high employment were at levels econmists and Central Bankers consider potentially inflationary so they had to do it."

@DavidM_yeg @pluralistic @bloodravenlib it's particularly funny (not in a ha-ha way) that #Lowes is the business in question, here, given the bandwagonning some were putting towards Lowe's away from #HomeDepot, given HD's owner being pro-tRump. As if Lowe's had a conscience and were some nice business.

Spoiler: they are not. There are none. Large corporations are soul-less, scruple-less, and will always fuck people over, to boost bottomline, because that is how they are set up. The world will burn because CEOs need bonuses.

Learn this, peeps. Don't give in to artificial culture wars. ALL large corporations are evil, no billionaires are good.
