Our 18 guidelines encourage newsrooms to center fact-based reporting that shifts the focus from polls and drama to candidates’ policies, past governance, behavior and capability.

The guidelines fall under three categories:

1) Treat elections like they matter more than sports scores
2) Make threats to democracy clear
3) Protect Americans from disinformation

Voters need substantive coverage of the issues, not dumb coverage of who's up and who's down.

The rights and freedoms that Americans cherish are at risk. It’s more important than ever for news executives and journalists to step up and put the public before profit, democracy before tyranny, and truth before lies. 5/5

At the ballot box, voters deserve the opportunity to make their choices with crystal clear information about the threats to their rights and freedoms posed by anti-democracy candidates.

"When Wallnau calls #Harris a Jezebel, then, viewers should understand that he is nodding toward his own #dreams and #prophecies, his claims to have foretold her coming. Such claims are the currency of the apostles and prophets of the New Apostolic Reformation, or NAR, a #Christian #religious and #political movement “driven by theocratic notions of total societal dominion, including the end of #democracy as we’ve known it”"

"Rather than calling out right-wing attacks on #Harris as #racism, pure & simple, reporter Emmanuel Felton... termed them “racial attacks” & situated them as part of “the broader culture war over corporate diversity & affirmative action programs.”

The #headline on that story was another passive #horror, putting the onus on Harris rather than on the perpetrators: “Harris’s campaign will have to contend with #DEI, culture war attacks”.

Text from article: The Washington Post, meanwhile, is blaming the culture wars. Rather than calling out right-wing attacks on Harris as racism, pure and simple, reporter Emmanuel Felton on Monday termed them “racial attacks” and situated them as part of “the broader culture war over corporate diversity and affirmative action programs.” For Felton, the story is not that the right wing is responding to Harris with grotesque racism, it’s that “America’s fraught racial politics are set to, once again, take center stage.” The headline on that story was another passive horror, almost putting the onus on Harris rather than on the perpetrators: “Harris’s campaign will have to contend with DEI, culture war attacks”.
