The Lemmy developers are hypocrites

The Mastodon project is working to reduce the load on instances by building opt-in centralized services like the ability to fetch OpenGraph/oEmbed data from a single source, rather than from the origin, solving the DDoS problem.

The Lemmy devs claim to be decentralized, but are running a centralized server directory, smh 🙄

Pixelfed is proudly working with @Mastodon on this btw, collaboration not isolation is key.

Remove Lemmy #32 • Open Nutomic opened yesterday I just found out about this repo by coincidence, and was surprised that Lemmy is implied to be involved, by prominently showing the Lemmy logo in various images. We Lemmy maintainers have never been contacted by Mastodon maintainers about this, and do not support it in any way. The whole purpose of Lemmy is to be a decentralized alternative to large social media corporations, so we will never add support for the kind of centralized services you are proposing. So please remove the Lemmy icon from all images in this repo, and I also suggest you contact the maintainers of Pleroma, Peertube etc for permission to include their logos.

My mastodon post getting a reply from a lemmy user. Mastodon-lemmy integration is not good, so seeing it happen passive was weird.

Instead, what happened here (AFAICT):
* An #mbin "magazine" sucked up my post due to a hashtag (I think)
* Added it (for some unclear reason) as a post to it's equivalent of a community
* Then federated that to #lemmy as such

How #Lemmy could interop with #Mastodon, as imagined in Frontpage + Bluesky:

“When you post on Fp, we propose that a mirror post will also be created in your Bluesky account. When you comment on Frontpage, we propose that a mirror reply will be created in your Bluesky account.

Conversely, when you reply to one of these mirrored posts in Bluesky - we will show it as a reply in Frontpage.

Additionally, Bluesky likes will be translated to Frontpage votes and vice versa.”

Oh dear. My post on #Fediverse interoperability got long real fast!

1853 words to describe the magic-like communication between #Mastodon and #Pixelfed thanks to #ActivityPub 😅

I had initially planned to discuss #Lemmy#Misskey#Friendica and #Peertube but I suppose that will be in future posts. My oh my!

Still, excited to share this soon - hopefully this will convince more friends and contacts to join the Fediverse.
