If anyone who is on Lemmy finds themselves feeling uncomfortable using Lemmy based on this information, there are two federated alternatives you can move to, #Piefed and #MBIN. Information is here: https://jointhefediverse.net/join?lang=en-us
The Mastodon project is working to reduce the load on instances by building opt-in centralized services like the ability to fetch OpenGraph/oEmbed data from a single source, rather than from the origin, solving the DDoS problem.
The Lemmy devs claim to be decentralized, but are running a centralized server directory, smh 🙄
Pixelfed is proudly working with @Mastodon on this btw, collaboration not isolation is key.

My mastodon post getting a reply from a lemmy user. Mastodon-lemmy integration is not good, so seeing it happen passive was weird.
Instead, what happened here (AFAICT):
* An #mbin "magazine" sucked up my post due to a hashtag (I think)
* Added it (for some unclear reason) as a post to it's equivalent of a community
* Then federated that to #lemmy as such
Please boost for more reach!

Another left a comment on Frontpage, that I also replied to. These were translated to a thread on Bluesky.
I voted the reply on Frontpage, this vote translated to a like on Bluesky.
Now consider another user noticed this bsky thread, and left a reply to one of these comments from the Bluesky app.
We can show this reply inside of Fp; now the discourse stays together with all of its context!”

Or maybe I have to keep tagging the channel/group?
I need your help to feature all of the amazing services that are part of the #ActivityPub realm.
What are some of your favorite ActivityPub handles to follow on #Funkwhale, #Peertube, #Pixelfed, #Bookwyrm, #Wordpress, #Truefans, #Castopod, #Akkoma, #Friendica, #Lemmy and others?
Your replies will be categorized by @jejord, @AileenLalor, @miaq and @marci so that we can feature these accounts to our Flipboard users and work to ensure they render properly on Flipboard.
I'm excited to help evangelize the many great projects here and advocate for their adoption and funding.

Third time's a charm: This post can be seen with #Mastodon, #Bluesky, #Sharkey, #Mbin, #Lemmy, #Friendica, #Hubzilla, #Hometown, #Akkoma & more.
Please share it wherever you see it in the #Fediverse
Favs from #lemmy and #mbin aren't shown here on #Mastodon, right? And I think, it's not customary to boost or share in this RedditAlternatives. That's seems to be, why I still not see much from the activity happening over there. 😕

1853 words to describe the magic-like communication between #Mastodon and #Pixelfed thanks to #ActivityPub 😅
I had initially planned to discuss #Lemmy#Misskey#Friendica and #Peertube but I suppose that will be in future posts. My oh my!
Still, excited to share this soon - hopefully this will convince more friends and contacts to join the Fediverse.
