Wait… is the AI judging me? Can it unicycle? No it cannot, so it can piss off!

You know why it is slower, AI? BECAUSE I AM UNICYCLING. If I was using a regular bike or even a penny farthing I would be faster but you cannot understand this.

Some sites, for example @404mediaco*, specifically use the email login window. even for free content, as an anti- #AI scraping mechanism, after #perplexity_ai was caught reproducing news articles whole hog.

* In its infancy, unreliable & famous for its unreliability.
* In its adolescence, steadily improving in quality, including the practice of citing real, relevant sources for important claims.
* In its maturity, respected for reliability, w/ occasional embarrassing exceptions. Most people with high standards are happy to read a Wikipedia article for an intro to a topic new to them.

I'm wondering. AI could but needn't follow this path.

On Wednesday, next Wednesday, a week on Wednesday, in two Wednesday’s time, three Wednesday’s on, or any other temporal variant, and including regional dialects are all totally alien concepts to it. And god forbid you discuss more than one timescale or event in one email.

What I do fear is that for those that do heavily invest, they’ll be required by the likes of Microsoft to begin to speak in ways that Copilot can parse and ‘understand’. Which in larger organisations will shape the way that they communicate with others, and it’ll spread. In the same way that American corporate speak, or Agile terminology has infected the rest of the world.

Our interactions, the things that make us most human, will be modified for the sake of corporate benefit over the coming years.

Language is a wonderful thing. It deeply saddens me that this isn’t some fringe theory, but an inevitability.

Context and nuance is going to be erased wholesale from captured information… which will also be filled to the brim with inaccuracies.

The round would be led by Thrive Capital, which is investing about $1 billion, Bloomberg reported earlier this week. Nvidia has discussed investing about $100 million, two of the people said.

If the discussions move forward, it would mean the three most valuable tech companies are all backing OpenAI, maker of the groundbreaking ChatGPT chatbot. Microsoft was already OpenAI’s biggest funder, having invested roughly $13 billion."
